Coventry Children’s Peace Song 2020

We ran the competition for the first time during June and July 2019 to select Coventry Children’s Peace Song 2020.

Primary schools in Coventry were supported by specialists working for the Morning of Music Programme as they wrote and recorded songs related to Peace and Reconciliation.

These were then submitted to be judged by a panel including Councillor Linda Bigham, the Lord Mayor of Coventry, and representatives from Coventry Music Hub and Coventry Cathedral.

Winner

The winning song was “Sending Out a Message” written by children from Richard Lee School.

We’re the young generation
We will get it out, no doubt
Spreading the word round the nation
We gotta get the message out

Snapchat, WhatsApp, this is where it’s really at
Sending out a message to you
Messenger, Instagram, faster than a telegram
Sending out a message to you
We’ll send a message to the world
Send a message to the world for Peace
[Repeat]

We’re all working together
No matter what your colour or race
Getting on well with each other
In Coventry you’ll find your place

Snapchat, WhatsApp, this is where it’s really at
Sending out a message to you
Messenger, Instagram, faster than a telegram
Sending out a message to you
We’ll send a message to the world
Send a message to the world for Peace

Runners Up

The song in second place was “The Place to Be” by Courthouse Green

That was closely followed in third place by “A Non-Violent World” from Park Hill Primary School.

We would like to thank all schools for their energy and enthusiasm in taking part in this innovative new contribution to peace.
